Trump Has Changed the Republican Party

While there are many things about the Republican party that has not changed, President Trump has awakened a sleeping giant that is within the Party itself. For decades, Republicans have put up with elected officials who play the game and stay in office for years. After a while these officials are part of the swamp in one way shape or form, which has been tot he detriment of the party. In fact, it was those officials that sent many voters to voting Democrat, I will admit, for a while, I changed my party affiliation because I THOUGHT the Republicans had abandoned me, and they had, to a degree.

The big thing now is that the Republican party has an opportunity to re-set and become more of what our Founding Fathers wanted for our country and at this junction in our history, it would be a greater advantage if the party LISTENED to the PEOPLE. The overwhelming dissatisfaction with the Democrat Party has sent many of their members looking for help in the Republicans but we cannot remain the same party of the last twenty years, we need to adjust our agenda and keep our elected officials fresh. In other words, we need to LIMIT their time in Washington D.C. to a reasonable time frame. We can no longer have members of Congress that have served since President Johnson. Even 15 years is too long because anyone serving two terms in Senate is already risking their integrity. By limiting terms, we can prevent a lot of “good-ol’ boy” dealings. We can bring in fresh blood and fresh ideas that would actually benefit the Party and the country.

Some would argue that we don’t want someone who doesn’t know how to get things done. Well, there are enough staff on Capitol Hill who know how to do things, to help fresh blood navigate things. What we need is people who are not stagnate, who go home on weekends to see the people and those who have not made millions by being in Congress for decades. We need to stop the Nancy Pelosi’s, Chuck Schumer’s and yes even Mitch McConnell’s because they are making money from lobbyists. Nancy Pelosi’s husband has contracts with the government and that in itself is conflict of interests. these things must be stopped.

Senator Jerry Moran from Kansas is a good example. He started out as a Representative then became a Senator. He has been there too long and the People of Kansas are not happy with a lot of what he is doing but we have a real threat with the Democrats pushing Dr. Bollier, who was actually a real threat to Senator elect Roger Marshall in this recent election. Many who voted for Marshall voted for him because we didn’t want a Democrat representing us in D.C. I would have preferred Kobach, but he was going to be easily defeated by Bollier, so I strategically voted for Marshall. We need the Republican party to have solid candidates and they all need to be equally strong enough to defeat the Democrat candidate. I shouldn’t have to vote strategically out of fear.

I want to suggest to the Republican party, we need to start recruiting potential candidates that are no-nonsense like Donald Trump. We want people who are not easily swayed by money and can be bought. These potential candidates are not your typical prospects, they are every day people who are pissed off about the direction our country has gone. They want term limits for all AND we need to stop making Washington D.C. a money-making trip. In other words, let’s cut out the retirement funds for those serving, no more perks from being a retired elected official. They can make millions being lobbyists or working for companies who need people with their experiences. Serving our country should not mean you become a millionaire by feeding off the government teat.

The Republican party would greatly benefit by recruiting strong-willed, tenacious people who have worked hard and give a darn about our country that can’t be bought. We need more people willing to spout off Truth without fear of being politically incorrect. THAT is why Trump is so well liked, he doesn’t worry about opinion, he fights back and he doesn’t back down. We need Republican leaders just like that because our Founding Fathers had those traits as well. A republic does well when it has fearless leaders willing to fight for what is right and good over what is politically correct.

President Trump has changed the face of the Republican Party and he has reinvigorated t hose who have been overlooked for years, the working man and woman who bust their butts every day to get by who aren’t on the government teat. It is time for the Republican Party to focus on what is practical for the People, not what gets them the lobbyists benefits.
