The Words of our Founding Fathers

Today I would like to share the words of our Founding Fathers on various topics. It is my hope that you will glean some wisdom or find something that fills your heart with patriotism as their words often fill mine. Their wisdom and truth is what our country was born from.

“But what do we mean by the American Revolution? Do we mean the American war? The Revolution was effected before the ware commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations….This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real American Revolution.”- John Adams

“Resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian and social duty of each individual…Continue steadfast and, with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly defend t hose rights which heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us.”-John Hancock

“For God’s sake, let us come to a final separation…The birthday of a new world is at hand.” –Thomas Paine

“It is a common observation here that our cause is the cause of all mankind, and that we are fighting for their liberty in defending our own.”-Benjamin Franklin

“The rebels are not the despicable rabble too many have supposed them to be.”- British General Thomas Gage to his superiors in London

“Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have his consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.-Thomas Paine

“Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth.”-George Washington

“No man in his senses can hesitate in choosing to be free, rather than a slave.” –Alexander Hamilton

“I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it.”-Thomas Jefferson.

It is my hope that you found some inspiration and a stirring of patriotism in the words above. I purchased a book called The Founding Fathers- Quotes, Quips and Speeches that Gordon Leidner collected into a beautiful collection. Well worth ordering and reading from time to time. God Bless America Again!
