Professor Kim Wilson is a University of Nebraska Landscape Architecture extension specialist. She is also the head of the board that is attempting to overthrow the will of the people in the proposed Kansas Nebraska Heritage Area Partnership. Of the 49 counties in this proposed area 45 OPPOSE this designation. Why on earth would Kim Wilson continue the pushing for this designation if the majority of counties in this proposed area adamantly oppose what she is wanting to do? What is her agenda? Who is behind her on this? There are lots of questions to ask of her and no one is getting anywhere with her. I actually called this woman to talk with her, told her up front I opposed what she was doing but she refused to listen and promptly hung up the phone. That gives me a very poor report on the University of Nebraska’s professors. Really, if her “better than thou” behavior is an example of the University’s professors, I would never recommend a college student look at the U of Nebraska.
But I digress. Why is Kim Wilson up to this push to move forward when people do not want this? Is she going to get a bunch of money to get this through? Is she going to be paid to be the board head? It is curious that the National Heritage Areas are suppose to be a grassroots project but it seems that there is just a board of people who are really not interested in the concerns of land owners but in getting this designation passed so they can line their pockets of a non-government organanization /non-profit. The lie that they want this designation for tourism and economic development is easily debunked when you look at other National Heritage Areas across the country. These non-profits are suppose to be self-sufficient within 15 years of organizing and yet not one is! As of the 2019 fiscal report from the Freedoms Frontier National Heritage Area (FFNHA) which engulfs 41 counties, 29 Kansas counties and 12 Missouri counties, their income comes from local governments and federal governments, in other words, YOUR TAX DOLLARS, to the tune of 97% That’s right folks, 54% of their income is locally funded through foundations that are taxpayer funded. So, if you have an economic development non-profit, they are probably funneling money to them. Oh and the best part of this whole scam is that only ONE COUNTY of the 29 counties in Kansas has benefitted from the FFNHA and that is Douglass county! Most of the other 29 counties don’t even know they are in this designated area!
The problem comes when these NGOs start pushing zoning and planning in these NHAs and that is when comprehensive planning and zoning regulations start dictating to land owners where they can build fences, what they can and can’t do with their land and what color you may paint your home. Yep, check out Lyon county Kansas and the Flint Hills Regional Council’s push to outlaw agriculture in that county.
So back to Kim Wilson. Why is she pushing so hard for something THE PEOPLE don’t want? I think we need to follow the money but you can ask her yourself! Here is her contact information!
